Sometimes the only thing that matters is how we feel. We stop worrying about everyone else and start focusing on how to make ourselves feel better. There is nothing wrong with being selfish every once in awhile. Because putting our trust in people and depending on them to make us happy is scary; it’s uncertain. Things happen and they change us. In those moments, all that matters is how we can stop ourselves from feeling that pain or disappointment; even if it means shutting out the people who hurt us, no matter how hard it may be. It doesn’t matter about wrong or right, how big or small the fights were, whether or not we’re over-reacting. What matters is whether or not we can just stop the hurt from encompassing us.
Feeling sadness and allowing ourselves to admit to pain, isn’t weakness – it’s growth. We hurt, then we get better. We cry, until we can cry no more. We fight, even if there is no one fighting back. And sometimes we even let our emotions control us; control our minds, and our actions. But then comes the point when feeling sorry for ourselves is no longer acceptable – so we move on. When faced with adversity it enables our ability to move forward. We learn how to let go. We learn how to forgive. We learn acceptance. And we learn how to live again.
Sometimes, it’s not about pride. Sometimes we just need time to heal; time to be sad, time to grow, time to learn. Sometimes our actions and reactions are not the most rational. In fact, at times they may be downright ridiculous. But things happen. Things change us. We change. We come out of situations different than we were getting into them. We make mistakes. We make choices. Some don’t make sense to anyone else but ourselves. But it’s our mistake. Our choice. Our life. Everyone deals in different ways. Let them deal. Let them learn on their own. Let them live – how they want, the ways they want, at the pace they so desire. After all, there isn’t only one right path. And sometimes we need to take the wrong ones to figure out which path works best.
